The Comprehensive Education in Palliative/End-of-life Care (CEPEC) research team is comprised of clinical practitioners, educators, and curriculum and evaluation specialists with expertise in multiple disciplines including academic medicine, communication, end-of-life and palliative care, financial issues of end-of-life care, geriatrics, hematology and oncology, instructional and web-based technology, medical ethics, psychology, public health education, statistical measurement and evaluation, spirituality, and transcultural competency.
Because EOLC education is vital to ensure that future physicians are optimally prepared to care for our aging population, especially terminally ill cancer patients, CEPEC research focuses exclusively on developing, implementing, and evaluating a cancer and end-of-life care (EOLC) curriculum for medical students. The overall goal is the integration of the CEPEC curriculum into the UA COM curriculum and to prepare medical students to address EOLC-related issues as outlined in the standards required by Arizona Med
This 5-year research study is funded by the National Cancer Institute (R25 CA 092517) as part of their goal to support cancer-related education through the Office of Education and Special Initiatives (OESI). The study is currently in its third year of funding and wll continue through August 2008.
